Msgr Edmond Farhat, former Apostolic Nuncio of Austria, was in Medjugorje this week for four days with a large group of Austrian pilgrims estimated at 2,000.

Last Sunday, Msgr Farhat told the congregation at the English-speaking Mass that his benediction carried with it a special papal indulgence (with the usual conditions attached) for all those able to attend the Masses at which he was the Celebrant while he was in Medjugorje.

I expect that the Mostar's bishop will be stopped in his comments. The Church's position of seeing the development of the events in Medjugorje allowing the faithful to go there is the best of options. I think that the franciscan friars should be allowed to continue with their ministry of attending the pilgrims and of closely observe and protect the vissionaries...

I have just found this blog through Spirit Daily. God Bless you for your work. In a world filled with noise and distraction, your blog is filled with peace and I could feel it. Thank you so very much.

Does the ArchBishop need to ask for a special blessing from the Pope to give this Blessing? What I am trying to get at is "does he say, Holy Father, I am going to Medjugorje would you allow me to give a Papal indulgence when i am there?"
God Bless!!!!

Tony,
I think the Bishop is already granted this previledge or power to pass on the Holy Father's blessing for blessed and pious works. Once I recieved one for making rosaries for the missions and it was sent in the form of a certificate.

He is the Apostalic Nuncio for Austria and as such, rather means he represents the Pope there. In taking over a thousand pilgrims to Medjegorje is a large undertaking. I think the Holy Father visted before he became the Pope, but this surely lets you know he approves. If your rosary is blessed with special blessings and you bless someone with your rosary, the blessing are past on to them. Rose

Thanks Rose!
I was in Medjugorje in 98. I was with the first group to stay with Ivan and his family. When we were there a U.S. army chaplin was there. He was the highest ranking chaplin in our armed services. He even had his own personal body guard
thanks again Rose!

I once heard a song in Medjugorje "peace is flowing like a river". God's holy spirit is the water filling all those empty spaces in souls. Nobody will stop it. The more light the more evil to be seen. This time is a time we discover so much evil in this world but it also means that God's light is iluminating the scene. Tony, never mind all those little mistakes humans do and always will do. Open your eyes, our Lord is about to act. Medjugorje is suffering bad attacks but the more stormy winds, the better it's trees and fruits grow. Look at the positiv, not on humans mistakes.
God bless Medjugorje.
Johannes
